  • Auditions for new Musical Director

    We held interviews and auditions with the Junior Choir for a new Musical Director today. We had two strong candidates with different musical backgrounds who both undertook a short session with the children. We have offered the position to Sarah who will join us in November.

  • Come and Sing Disney

    The Pentland Junior Singers hosted Come and Sing Disney as part of the Balerno Music Festival for the second year. We did not have as many participants as last year but all who attended had a brilliant time learning and then giving a short performance of songs from Mulan, Cinderella and other Disney films. Those participating were even given the opportunity to sing solo’s! Thanks to Jessica for leading this, Ailsa our accompanist and members of the adult choir for organising and assisting on the day.

  • Pentland Juniors say goodbye to Jessica Leary

    The Pentland Juniors had an emotional last rehearsal with Jessica Leary our Musical Director for the last 8 years. Jessica will be greatly missed by all the junior choir members and also by the adult choir where she is well known and greatly respected. Alison Marr, Convener of the adult choir presented Jessica with a cheque, flowers and champagne and wished her well with her future studies and career.

  • New Term starts Tuesday 3rd September

    We are looking forwards to beginning our new term on Tuesday 3rd September . We rehearse in Balerno Parish Church from 6-7 pm. We currently have spaces, so if you are interested in joining us , please come along.

  • Summer Concerts

    The Pentland Juniors were one of the highlights of the Pentland Singers Summer Concert back in June. They performed two songs from shows to fit in with the concert theme, Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, and It’s a Hardknock Life from Annie with actions including foot samping and petulant poses! They also gave a beautiful rendition of The Birks of Aberfeldy by Robert Burns, one of the songs that they sang when they won the Scots Song Competition in March.

    The Juniors completed there set by teaching the audience the words and actions of a lively song they developed at rehearsals.

  • Juniors receive Competition Certificates

    At rehearsal this evening we were pleased to give each of the Junior singers a copy of the certificates for the two sections they won at the Edinburgh Competition Festival. We are busy learning new songs for the summer concert on 12th and 13th June at Balerno High School.

  • Pentland Juniors sing at Edinburgh Competition Festival Finale Concert

    We were so excited to be asked to perform in the Edinburgh Competition Festival Finale Concert on Sunday 17th March at Queens Hall, Edinburgh. The first half of the concert featured section winners from voice and various musical instruments. The standard was excellant and we thoroughly enjoyed performing Bonnie Wee Thing and Colours of the Wind.

  • Pentland Juniors success at the Edinburgh Competition Festival

    The Pentland Juniors took part in three sections of the Edinburgh Competition Festival on Friday 8th March. They were runners up in the Primary School section and won both the Scots Song section and Choirs for mixed ages section. All eleven girls should be so proud of their achievement. A huge thanks to Jessica Leary our musical director and Ailsa Aitkenhead our accompaniast.
